# Courts.tennis > A reference directory of places to play tennis in New York City, Melbourne, London, Paris, Toronto, Washington DC, Madrid, Miami and 42 more cities. For each venue: whether you walk on, book or must join, how to book, what it costs, how many courts it has and what they are made of, and the page each fact was read on. Courts.tennis is at https://www.courts.tennis. It is a free reference site with nothing to sign up for. It is published by 4GRAND, which also runs a fantasy tennis product, but the directory is not a game and does not require an account. ## The cities - [New York City](https://www.courts.tennis/nyc): the public park courts the City records, and the clubs. A park with no position that may be published is left out. ## What a venue page tells you - How you get on a court: walk on, book, members only, or a mix. - Where bookings are taken, with a link to the booking page, and the price where the operator states one. - How many courts, the surface, floodlights, hours, and indoor or covered courts, where a source gives them. - The address and a map. - For every fact: the page it was read on and the date it was read. Often the exact words that settle it. ## How to get on a court in New York City - Most public parks are walk-on: turn up, put your name on the sheet, wait your turn. A City tennis permit covers the season. - A small number of public parks take a City reservation, bookable up to seven days ahead, never same-day, for a fee per court per hour on top of the permit. - Clubs and indoor centres run their own booking and their own pricing, independently of the City. ## How to get on a court in Toronto - The City's rule for every public court: free, no booking, first come, first served, and you share the court with anyone waiting every 30 minutes. - Club-run courts on City land are for members, apart from the free public hours the City posts for each one. ## How to get on a court in Washington DC - The parks department's rule for its courts: play without a booking; when players are waiting, one hour for singles and 1.5 hours for doubles; permit holders for court time take priority. - No page read says whether play without a permit is free, so this directory does not say it is. ## How to get on a court in Miami - It differs by government. A few cities state it: Coral Gables and Miami Beach take bookings; Doral's courts can be reserved and are otherwise free to walk on. - Most parks are listed as public courts and nothing more, because the county and the City of Miami list their tennis courts without saying how you get on one. This directory does not guess: ask at the park. ## How to get on a court in Palm Springs - Each park here is listed by its own city as having tennis courts, and most of those pages say nothing about how you get on one. This directory does not guess: ask at the park. La Quinta states that Fritz Burns Park's courts are available for public use from dawn to 10 p.m. ## How to get on a court in Adelaide - It is decided council by council. Holdfast Bay and Marion say their community courts need no booking, and Norwood Payneham & St Peters says the same of one reserve: those are listed as walk-on, with the council's words quoted. - Club courts are members only unless the club or council names a public booking route; several clubs hire courts to the public through Book a Court. ## How to get on a court in Tokyo - Every court listed is booked, none is walk-on. The metropolitan government's guide says people whose address is outside Tokyo can register: 「住所が都外の方でも登録できます。」 - Register first (online needs a phone that can receive SMS; otherwise at a park counter with ID). A lottery for the next month runs from the 1st to the 10th; free slots are booked first come, first served from the 22nd. There is no same-day booking at the counter. - The guide does not say whether a visitor with a foreign phone number or passport can register, so this directory does not say either. ## How to get on a court in Rome - The City of Rome owns its sports facilities and clubs run them, so it is decided venue by venue, on the operator's own words. Where an operator rents courts to the public, the venue is listed as bookable with its booking route: the club office, the operator's booking page, or Playtomic. - Where an operator describes booking only for members (Soci), or court use only with a membership, the venue is listed as members only. - The City sets maximum hourly tariffs for its facilities. A price is shown only where the operator publishes one or says it charges the City's tariffs. ## How to get on a court in Los Angeles - The City's free courts are walk-on. In the City's words: "Open Play courts are free and are first come first served." - Its Pay Tennis courts are booked through the City's online booking system, which needs a registered household account. Each venue page shows the City's prices with the date they took effect. - A few City parks list tennis courts but appear on neither of the City's tennis lists. They are listed as public courts, with no walk-on or booking claim. ## How to get on a court in Cincinnati - The City's recreation commission says "Access to any CRC property is open to the public." It says nothing more about the tennis courts, so this directory lists them as public courts and claims neither walk-on nor booking. - Lunken Tennis Center is city-run and pay to play, with court reservations by phone. The Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, home of the Cincinnati Open, is mostly for members; non-members can book outdoor courts on the same day. ## How to get on a court in Madrid - The City's sports centres rent courts by the hour through one booking site, Deportes Web, up to 7 days ahead, at one city-wide price. The City says the online account must first be activated in person at a municipal sports centre. - Two small facilities are labelled free access by the City and are listed as walk-on, with the City's regulation quoted. ## How to get on a court in Melbourne, Sydney, London and Paris - It is decided venue by venue, not by one city rule. Each venue page says which it is: open to the public by booking, members only, some of each, or walk-on. - Booking systems and prices differ from venue to venue. Where a source gives them, the page names the system, links the booking page and shows the price. - Only venues whose access was confirmed on a named source are listed. A court that is missing here may still exist. ## Key pages - [Home](https://www.courts.tennis/): choose a city. - [New York City permits](https://www.courts.tennis/nyc/permits): who needs a City tennis permit and what it costs. - [Indoor tennis in New York City](https://www.courts.tennis/nyc/indoor): which venues play indoors, and in which months. - [Bookable courts in New York City](https://www.courts.tennis/nyc/open): the venues that take a reservation, gathered from the pages the City publishes one at a time, with what a booking and a permit cost.
